Ambulance personnel need fast, reliable access to patient information systems. Every second counts in acute care. The DEZI pilot has demonstrated that wallet-based authentication delivers exactly that. In a four-week pilot with 12 ambulance service employees, the Yivi wallet received a perfect 10 out of 10 for usability.
What is DEZI?
DEZI is an initiative to create a secure, standardized login system for healthcare professionals. Instead of managing dozens of passwords across different systems, healthcare workers authenticate once using DigiD and a digital wallet. This gives them seamless access to the patient information systems they need.
The pilot was conducted with ambulance services from:
- Ambulancediensten Witte Kruis
- Veiligheidsregio Kennemerland
- Veiligheidsregio Noord-Holland Noord
- RAVU (Regionale Ambulancevoorziening Utrecht)
Why wallet-based login works for acute care
Traditional authentication methods like passwords, SMS codes, and hardware tokens create friction. In acute care, that friction can be critical. Ambulance personnel need to access systems quickly, often in stressful situations with limited time.
The wallet approach fundamentally changes this. As one participant noted:
“The wallet works fastest and requires the fewest actions. Very convenient for acute care.”
This feedback is reflected in the pilot results:
- Usability: 10/10
- Login stability: 9/10
- Practical fit: 9.6/10
These are not just impressive numbers. They represent real validation from healthcare professionals working in high-pressure environments.
Beyond login: the real value lies in data sharing
The pilot also revealed an important insight: login alone is not the end goal. The true value of wallet-based identity emerges when it enables secure sharing and consultation of patient data across the entire care chain.
Imagine an ambulance arriving at an accident scene. With wallet-based authentication, the paramedic can not only log in quickly, but also securely access relevant patient history (medication, allergies, existing conditions) shared by the patient’s GP or hospital. This is the vision DEZI is working towards.
A second pilot phase is planned for Q2 2026, focusing precisely on this: demonstrating the clinical value of secure data sharing using the same wallet infrastructure.
Yivi: built for privacy, proven in practice
The DEZI pilot adds to the growing evidence that Yivi’s approach to digital identity works in production environments. Yivi combines:
- Speed: One-tap authentication that works faster than passwords
- Privacy: Zero-knowledge proofs ensure no unnecessary data is shared
- Reliability: Scores of 9/10 for stability in a demanding healthcare setting
- User control: Healthcare workers authenticate using credentials they control
This is the same technology that powers privacy-friendly age verification, secure email with PostGuard, and identity solutions across sectors.
From pilot to production
The DEZI pilot demonstrates that the future of healthcare authentication is here. Wallet-based identity is not a theoretical concept. It is a practical solution that healthcare professionals prefer over traditional methods.
As healthcare systems continue to digitize and interconnect, secure identity becomes the foundation for everything else: accessing patient records, sharing information across care providers, ensuring the right person sees the right data at the right time.
Yivi is ready to be part of that future.
